Last year I attempted an illustration of Cara Delevigne but it went horribly wrong, and I ended up ripping it to shreds, this is my second attempt and I have to say I'm fairly pleased with myself. I've been introduced to the idea of using stippling within my fineliner illustration, by a Instagram user 'oneiscool', who also goes by the name of 'SpiderMoney' her work is mind blowing and truly amazing, she's inspired me to pick up my pens and get back into detailed illustration.
Stippling is an easy technique of just applying dots in designated areas that form the shapes, shadows and general mark making of a drawing, but it's precarious work and very time consuming, I spent majority of the day on this one image and by the end of it my (left) fingers, arm and hand were sore and achy.
I worked by marking out facial features (in pencil) and shading areas off, then worked through each section drawing lightly first in pencil then using a combination of cross hatching, fine lines, stippling and shading.
I'm pleased with the results so I'm going to practice some more with different subjects.
I've taken photographs of different stages of the drawing along with a full shot of the finished piece and some close ups.
